DPH House

This house was designed as a place of living for a family who regards the home as the center of daily life, a place to work, gather, and share time with relatives and friends. Located on a corner lot facing a green neighborhood park, the design seeks to extend the existing landscape qualities into the site itself. Landscape becomes an element that defines space while also acting as a privacy buffer, softening solar heat, providing shade, and bringing in fresh airflow that enlivens every spaces in the house.

The building is composed of three simple geometric volumes. A white rectangular volume acts as a connector, tying the other two volumes. The ground floor accommodates open and flexible communal spaces, while the upper floor is reserved for more private and tranquil functions. Spaces are designed to be open and adaptable, capable of accommodating a various scales of social activity.

Neutral toned concrete shapes the architectural expression of the house, not as an object that demands attention, but as a quiet backdrop that allows trees, light, and shadows to take center stage. Warmth is introduced through timber elements in the communal areas and bedrooms, creating an intimate and calming atmosphere.

Large trees and lush planting embrace the building on all sides, dissolving the boundary between indoors and outdoors. Water elements are placed at the arrival area and within the communal spaces as an integral part of the home’s spatial experience. Their presence creates a serene and contemplative arrival sequence while contributing to the site’s microclimate. Together with the surrounding landscape, these elements help maintain thermal comfort, ensuring that the communal spaces remain cool and pleasant throughout the day. This house is an exploration of living in harmony with the nature, a place where architecture, people, and nature are deeply connected, forming an environment that is warm, open, and centered around togetherness.
